Official BMW Motorsport Supplier BMW M4 GT3
The story of success between BMW and KW automotive opens the next chapter:
The new BMW M4 GT3 will be the pinnacle of the BMW M customer motorsport program in the 2022 motorsport season, which will succeed the BMW M6 GT3.
We at KW automotive are happy to be the official suspension partner of BMW Motorsport again. Already in the past, we have been the development partner and suspension supplier in numerous projects of BMW and BMW Motorsport.
KW automotive develops and builds suspension components exclusively for BMW Motorsport and BMW "M Performance Parts"
The new BMW M4 GT3 (2022) race car will feature the latest generation of our 4-way adjustable racing suspension with KW Solid Piston Technology. The modular KW valve technology in the KW competition 4-way racing kit for the M4 GT3 allows specifically configured damping characteristics with the use of various main valves and spring configurations.
The low and high-speed valves for both compression and rebound damping are positioned in series in a lateral arrangement and can be precisely tuned and offset with 18 clicks. By connecting the valves in series, we achieve a cavitation-free function at a low gas pressure and our development has precise high-frequency functionality due to the low valve lift. The entire system ensures low hysteresis and direct response in damping.
The response of our dampers is precise and high-frequency, even at a low valve lift. As an optional extra, the racing suspension developed for the new BMW M4 GT3 which is part of the modular KW Competition motorsport program can be equipped with an additional and adjustable valve for a blow-off function; all the more the possibility to offer a 5-way adjustment.
Our racing customer BMW Motorsport has already won the world's toughest endurance race, the 48th ADAC TOTAL 24h Race Nürburgring 2020, with our so-called KW Sold Piston Technology. 50 years after the first edition of the endurance classic, the ROWE Racing BMW M6 GT3 with number 99, equipped with 4-way adjustable KW Competition shock absorbers, crossed the finish line first after an impressive catch-up race on Sunday.
In addition to the two ROWE Racing BMW M6 GT3, the two BMW Team Schnitzer Motorsport and the Total BMW M6 GT3 from BMW Walkenhorst with the 4-way adjustable KW Solid Piston dampers were also successfully used on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The BMW Team Schnitzer with number 42 took third place overall and the M6 GT3 from Walkenhorst was again in the top 12 after a dramatic recovery!
Long-term partnership in motorsports and on the road: BMW and KW automotive
It is easy to explain why demanding motorsport and industrial customers such as BMW Motorsport rely on cooperation with KW. Being one of the few suspension manufacturers, we offer a flexible and fast implementation under one roof without detours - from the first concept to development, suspension setup on the KW 7-Post vehicle dynamics test rig to series production. This is the reason why, for example, until the end of the BMW Z4 GT3 production stop, these GT3 racing cars from 2012 to 2015 were homologated with our 3-way adjustable racing dampers.
For years factory teams and racing teams have relied on our engineering and the patented valve technology of our KW-Competition suspensions. With our state-of-the-art production technology, development and test center as well as tuning services on the KW 7-post vehicle dynamics rig, we operate successfully in racing and on the road. The victories at the 24h Race-Nürburgring, the 24h of Dubai, ADAC GT Masters, ADAC TCR Germany, the Bathurst 12h Race, 9h Kyalami Endurance Race, and the 24h Race Spa-Francorchamps are only a small excerpt of the victories of our customers.
On the front axle of the BMW Z4 GT3, we manufactured KW SingleTube dampers in an upside-down MacPherson strut design for BMW Motorsport. For the multi-link rear axle, we manufactured the 3-way adjustable KW SingleTube dampers in a high-strength lightweight aluminum construction.
Many teams used the Z4 GT3 in various competitions under GT3 regulations. During it’s farewell season in 2015 the BMW Z4 GT3 with brute V8 sound and the driver trio Nick Catsburg, Lucas Luhr and Markus Palttala from the BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS bid the platform farewell with an overall victory at the 24h race Spa-Francorchamps.
During the motorsports season from 2014 to 2018, we equipped the BMW M235i Racing, and in 2019 the BMW M240i Racing with our 2-way adjustable KW competition coilovers. On the front axle, the KW SingleTube race shock absorber cartridges, which are separately adjustable in compression and rebound, are manufactured in upside-down MacPherson strut design. For the rear axle, our KW TwinTube race suspensions are homologated. The special feature of the BMW M235i Racing and BMW M240i Racing is that they also share components from the BMW M Performance accessories program.
BMW M Performance Parts - KW driving dynamics for BMW production vehicles
Through a sustained transfer of technology from motorsport to the road, we have long been adding to the proverbial joy of driving with a plus in driving dynamics.
For numerous BMW M models, we produce optional chassis components for the Bavarian automobile manufacturer. The BMW M Performance Suspension, available for BMW M2, BMW M3, BMW M4, BMW M5, and BMW M5 Competition, either consists of a height-adjustable spring set or a KW coilover suspension with stainless steel shock absorbers and damper housings, independently adjustable in compression and rebound (KW TVR-A and TVC-A technology).
Manufactured by KW for BMW, the BMW M Performance Suspensions give the BMW models considerably reduced body roll, more direct handling, and excellent road holding. The BMW M suspension components differ from the well-known KW coilover suspensions as they have a different spring color and an adjusted lowering range. The stainless steel struts and damper housings as well as the spring plates also have a different color. All BMW M Performance suspensions have a parts certificate and are available exclusively from BMW and BMW sales partners.
Besides our commitment to the development and production of the optional BMW M Performance Part and the racing components for BMW Motorsport, we are also pleased to be a BMW partner for extraordinary projects. For example, we equipped the BMW M Safety Cars such as the BMW 1 Series M COUPÉ MOTOGP™ SAFETY CAR 2011 or the BMW M4 DTM SAFETY CAR 2014.
We work closely together with BMW and BMW M not only on selected special models such as the BMW M3 GTS (E92), which was limited to 150 units, but also the BMW M4 GTS (F82), limited to 700 units. We developed and manufactured a height-adjustable coilover suspension for both sports cars, whose driving dynamic parameters can be adjusted. The automobile manufacturer equipped the BMW M3 GTS (E92) and BMW M4 GTS (F82) with these KW coilover suspension systems during their production.
While the KW coilover suspension kit installed on the BMW M3 GTS (E92) by BMW factory was based on a KW Clubsport 2-way coilover suspension (KW TVR-A and TVC-A technology) with aluminum unibal top mount bearings; we developed a sporty-harmonic road suspension with unibal top mounts on basis of our 3-way damping adjustable technology (KW TVR-A and TVCLH-A technology) for the BMW M4 GTS. Born from these BMW M4 GTS shocks are our KW Variant 4 coilover suspension kits.
The KW coilover suspension used in the M4 GTS with its 3-way adjustable dampers proved that increased driving dynamics and driving comfort for everyday use are no longer mutually exclusive thanks to a multiple adjustable damper valve technology.
For example, the press judges like for instance German Sportauto editor Christian Gebhardt about the suspension in the BMW M4 GTS:”Grandiose chassis with much love for the detail - the chassis tuning is grandiosely succeeded, and one feels immediately, how much detailed work was invested here. Compared to the standard M4, the GTS steers even more precisely. It reacts to load changes hardly noticeably and absolutely good-natured. As expected, the M4 GTS outperforms its M4 base ... the very good chassis tuning of the newly developed three-way coilover suspension is responsible for this.” Have we promised too much? Hardly.
